Black Knights Camaro Update
Here are a couple of images showing progress. The second image has a cutout of the digital comp superimposed on top of the pastel to give an idea of how it will look. The left side has been blended more than the right side, still a lot of blending to do on the right side.

Black Knights Linear
My working drawing is complete and ready for transfer to the pastel paper. First it needs to be transferred to frisket film before carefully placing the film in place to cut the stencils.

Black Knight Camaros (Digital Comp) Complete
Here is the complete digital comp, created entirley with Adobe Illustrator in layers, then imported into Photoshop and created in layers. This will be the basis for my large oil pastel. Now it's on to creating the pencil linears to the actual size that the original drawing will be.

69 Camaro (Digital) Update
Here's a screen capture showing the photoshop layers menu and the colour version WIP for the digital comp. The new generation Camaro has many layers as well, just grouped for easy editing.

1969 Camaro (Digital - Vector Version) WIP
Here are a couple of shots showing the vector version of the vintage Camaro SS that will also be portrayed in my oil pastel version. This one will constitute part of the digital colour concept that the oil pastel version will be based on. The two shots show the "wireframe" skeleton and the preview mode of the vector drawing before colour is added. The file can be exported into photoshop with the layers appearing in photoshop as well.

Digital Camaro WIP (Update)
A couple of in-progress shots to work out the background for the pastel commission, both rendered with Adobe Illustrator then imported in Photoshop. For fun, I tried a ghosted version on top of the pen sketch, makes for an interesting contrast. This style might make for an interesting series for other marques.

Camaro (Digital) Update
An update on the photoshop version, added the wheel. Slow and steady! Please keep in mind, I'm not going for extreme detail here, just a comp that I can quickly lay into different backgrounds once I have painted them in acrylics, plus this will serve as a basis for the colour/lighting of the small acrylic sketch and the final pastel, which right now seems like an eternity away, lol. Thanks for looking!

New Camaros Commission
I've started a new piece for a client who would like their Camaros portrayed side-by-side. One of them is a vintage '69, but both are black. I usually create a small colur sketch in acrylics which I will do this time as well. To work out the reflections and colour scheme though I'm creating a rough digital version of both cars just for something a bit different. Here are a couple of versions of the computer sketch of the main Camaro in progress, this file being created using Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.

Sonic Stangs (Complete)
A nostalgic scene depicting an American classic, 1964 Ford Mustang alongside it's new generation successor at a Sonic Drive-In restaurant, in a scene that hopefully reflects a sense of the culture of an American drive-in restaurant. Oil Pastel on Canson Mi-Teintes pastel paper. Dimensions are 27.75" x 11.75"

Lake Placid
A few images from my recent trip to Lake Placid. We took in a Canada-US women's under-22 game at the Herb Brooks Arena, sight of the Miracle on Ice in 1980. We also climbed two mountains, Whiteface Mountain which is mostly climbed by car, the last 1/8th of a mile climbed on foot, very challenging. We also climbed Cascade Mountain, entirely on foot. It's the easiest to climb in the Adirondack Range, requiring no climbing gear, but it is an endurance and fitness test for the legs and lungs. It takes two hours to climb up and slightly less to scale down although that presents it's own challenges. The cemetery pic is in front of the Remington Family gravesite in Canton, New York, where Frederic Remington was born in 1861.

Newcastle Beach
Maddy and I went for a walk down to Newcastle Beach on Sunday. The rock that I painted for Sara's father Jim, in memory of Sara, came from this beach, and is sitting in our front garden. I love the peaceful sound of waves washing up on shore.

Sonic Stangs Update
Further progress on the large pastel. The piece is proving to be a challenge when it comes to cutting the intricate frisket masks for all the details on the car and the background. It helps to keep the frisket film aside in order to replace each piece once any given part of the pastel has been rendered. A lot of work but worthwhile in the end. As with any pastel piece, there is always a lot of burnishing with stomps. The smaller acrylic study can be seen at the top.

RedVIOLET in concert
Yesterday marked my son's band, RedVIOLET's third year playing at the Broken Arts Festival at Memorial Park in Oshawa. Nice job Michael, Sarah and Dan, you all rock!!
Sonic Stangs Update
I've begun the large pastel for this piece. The final size will be 30" wide. The pictures show the working drawing in loose placement on the paper surface in order to work out where the masked frisket templates will be placed. I carefully place all the frisket templates before applying colour to the delicate surface. I did a couple of rough colour swatches to work out the proper colour mix to obtain the blue/purple night sky backdrop.
