Another Toby Update

Another update. I'm trying to get this done fairly quickly as it needs to be completed for a birthday gift.
Once the paintng is complete I will send a scan of it to the client and ask her if she wants anything tweaked. It's one thing to work from photos, especially lousy ones, but quite another to know your subject in person. So I will need the client to decide if something doesn't look quite right. That's always the hardest part for me, waiting on a response from a client. I've also added a tint of turquoise to the background to desaturate it a little bit.

Toby WIP Update

I've begun the face. A lot of playing with subtle shades of sienna's/umbers/payne's grey to get the right overall tone. Trying to paint with the thin side of an angled brush in the direction of the fur and then as I go along I will use a finer brush to accentuate fine lines and details. It will also be important to soften edges as I go along.

Handel Pastel WIP

Further to my pencil study in January, I have started in on the colour version of the Baroque master in his composition room. Size is 18.75" x 25".

Dog Portrait Commission WIP

Here is the first stage of an acrylic portrait commission. The challenge with this one will be to establish a viewpoint that will be less of a bird's eye and more of an eye level for a better portrait composition.

Miss Detroit sketch finished

This sketch is complete. This gives me a colour scheme and an overall feel to work with for the larger pastel. Details like panel line (indications), fleshing out the figures will need to be done. I'll have to get my son to pose for some of the images I think.
